The room is probably somewhere between 400-500 sq ft. I bought a portable swamp cooler that we had to keep filling up with water but it failed to cool the room. This EdgeStar 10K BTU AC does a great job of cooling this big space. I had looked at several different portable ACs but saw where this one could be used with windows where they slide from side to side instead of up and down. Setup was easy and the hose that goes out the window fit easily with the panels provided. They also give you some foam installation to put around the panels/window which was nice. I had to figure out a way to block the window from sliding further as I did not want anyone to break into the house. I was able to find a wooden rod that fit perfectly into the window track and it won't move now. Anyway, my son runs it on about 75 degrees and it quickly... Ok i hooked it up over the weekend very simple instructions, the vent system is great it fit my sliding window with easy it does say you may have to drain the unit if high humidity may fill up the inner tank. I turned it on and instant cold air came out and its quiet compared to my tower fan. definitely recommend this unit.so much easier than lifting and installing a window unit.and one more thing if the inner tank fills up fast cause we get alot of hot humid days ill run a hose from the back of the unit to the window to drain out.Ok I hooked it up yesterday June 8,2012 and the upstairs temp was 80 i turned it on and went down stairs came up at 10pm and it was at 69 let it run all night having the unit set at 65 after the cool down and it got so cold up there i had to use my comforter i love...
